The August 21 date memo said the date was still unofficial. The August 26 invite locked it. This piece is a schedule, a watch guide, and an evidence table — not another guess at the day.

The answer: when does it start

Apple has sent invites for its 2026 fall special event:

For most of the US East Coast that is 1:00 p.m. ET. Do not set an evening alarm for the 9th if you are in Asia — it is already the 10th there.

This is John Ternus’s first hardware keynote as CEO after the September 1 handover. Tim Cook is Executive Chairman. The CEO date and the event date are not the same calendar item.

Pacific Time

The start time Apple prints. In September that is PDT (UTC−7).

Eastern Time

Three hours ahead of Pacific. Same calendar day in the US.

Expect 60–90 minutes, sometimes two hours. If you are watching at 1 a.m., budget to be done by 2:30.

Where to watch

Apple will push the same stream to three official doors:

1. Apple Events — the player appears on the event page before start.
2. Apple on YouTube — a “Surprise and Shine” placeholder is up; hit Notify me.
3. Apple TV app — search Apple Events; on a TV, Siri “Apple Event” lands on the same item.

Join about 10 minutes early. You do not need to camp the buffer for an hour. The keynote is usually pre-taped; the on-site press handles hands-on and hallway interviews, not the film you see.

Lineup: confirmed and rumored

The invite locks the slot and the tagline. It does not lock the product list. Rank the rest by evidence — do not write “media consensus” as “Apple confirmed.”

iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max

Supply-chain notes still treat these as the September lead:

• Chip talk points to A20 Pro on TSMC 2 nm;
• The on-device Intelligence floor stays at 12 GB;
• A variable-aperture rear camera is in play; some notes give it to Pro Max only;
• The body stays close to iPhone 17 Pro — not another full redesign.

Memory pricing is still tight. Whether the starting price moves is a Newsroom footnote on the night — do not pre-order against last year’s number.

The foldable: shape matters more than the name

Most reports use iPhone Ultra. The stage name wins. The stabler shape notes:

• Book-style fold, about 5.5 inches closed and 7.6 inches open;
• About 4.5 mm open, 9–9.5 mm closed;
• Thin enough that it uses Touch ID in the power button, not Face ID;
• Rear cameras likely wide + ultra-wide, no telephoto;
• Yield is tight — do not assume the same delivery week as Pro.

This is the first real iPhone shape change since iPhone X in 2017. For developers, the name matters less than whether iOS 27 ships a fold-specific window, split view, and cover/inner layout pair.

Watches, earbuds, and the living-room pile

Series 12 and Ultra 4 are the usual fall watch seats. Ultra 4 is being written as the largest change since 2022: case, sensor layout, battery. Hypertension alerts are still in regulatory review — do not write them as a night-one lock.

AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod mini, and a home hub only appear if there is time. They are not why you set an alarm. The alarm is for phones and OS ship dates.

After the show: pre-order, sale, software day

The hardware keynote ending is when the calendar gets tight.

Developer week: five things you can do now

The invite is out. The regression Mac should not sit idle.

1. Freeze the production baseline. Keep shipping Xcode / iOS on the current stable train. Do not lift the daily machine to the newest beta in early September.
2. Keep one Mac for iOS 27 GM. Simulators and stand-ups fight for RAM every event week.
3. Budget two RAM tiers in the test matrix. Keep an 8 GB older phone and a future 12 GB Pro. Do not test only on the newest flagship.
4. Do not upgrade the daily driver during the keynote. Hear the price and the spec footnotes first.
