When is the M6 MacBook Pro coming out?October 2026 price, specs, and on-sale timing

Three columns: the 28 October event is confirmed, $1,999 is the current M5 anchor, and 6 November is a reported retail reset

Whether the entry MacBook Pro moves to M6 this month, and whether that machine is the touchscreen model, are being written as one sentence. This piece keeps three lines apart: the event Apple has confirmed, the slate in the reporting, and the price and specs that are still the current store page.

What is actually set on 21 October

As of today, Apple has confirmed an event, not a spec sheet. Bloomberg reported on 19 October that Apple confirmed a launch in Los Angeles on 28 October, titled “Pro and tell,” where the company plans to debut its first touchscreen MacBook. Greg Joswiak posted the same day: “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week.” The 19th was a Monday, so “next week” is the week of 26 October, which lines up with the 28th.

The date moved once before that. On 8 October Mark Gurman described an online video and an in-person component on or around 27 October, listing the first touchscreen MacBooks, an OLED iPad mini, an M6 14-inch MacBook Pro, and an M6 iMac. On 15 October he said invited media would get an all-day experience on 28 October, without saying whether the product video would run the day before. On 19 October Apple pinned the event to the 28th. Calling the 27th the announced date now conflicts with that confirmation.

A ship date is not in an Apple newsroom post. The Verge on 18 October, citing Gurman, said stores are preparing a reset from the evening of 5 November into Friday 6 November. That kind of reset usually means new machines and demo units. Forbes the same week put preorders on 30 October and sales on 6 November, but still placed the event on 27 October. Which Friday preorders open is a store-page fact, and that page is not up.

The August timeline stopped at “no announced date.” The calendar now has an event day, so this update is sorted by how confirmed each claim is, not by the quarter-level guesses from then.

The event name and the laptop spec are not the same grade of fact

The 28th, Los Angeles, and Pro and tell match something Apple itself did. The name M6 MacBook Pro, the starting price, and the memory steps still live only in reporting.

The price anchor is the current model

The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro on sale today starts at $1,999 in the US and £1,999 in the UK. That is the June 2026 supply-constraint price, not an M6 price. Macworld’s 19 October update traces it: the M5 entry model launched in October 2025 at $1,599; when the M5 Pro and M5 Max arrived in March 2026, the entry model moved to $1,699 and the base storage moved to 1TB; in June 2026 supply constraints pushed it to $1,999.

No October report gives a new M6 sticker. In years when the chassis stays and only the chip changes, Apple has sometimes held the starting price. This year does not inherit that habit for free. On the July earnings call, CFO Kevan Parekh said the impact of supply constraints was expected to increase significantly sequentially. Tim Cook said there was less flexibility in the supply chain and that the impact would increase significantly, naming iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Memory and storage shortages are still in the October reporting. $1,999 is the anchor for the machine you can buy today. An M6 that holds that price is one outcome. Another step up is the other.

China, Hong Kong, and Japan prices wait on those storefronts. Converting $1,999 at the spot rate produces an estimate, not an Apple price, and it leaves local tax out. The touchscreen OLED tier is expected to cost more, and it also has no number.

When Entry 14-inch What it tells you
October 2025 M5, from $1,599 The original start for this entry model
March 2026 $1,699, 1TB base storage Adjusted with the M5 Pro and Max, not an M6
June 2026 $1,999 A supply-constraint increase Macworld treats as the new normal
21 October 2026 M6 unpriced A hold or another rise, with no store page either way

Specs start from the M6 already on sale

The M6 is already shipping in the Mac mini. It is not shipping in a MacBook Pro. Macworld’s 19 October piece uses the chip you can buy to preview the laptop, and it says the laptop’s exact configuration is still unconfirmed. Copying the mini’s numbers onto the laptop a week early would be the mistake.

Against the M5, the shipping M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU; the M5 has 10 and 10. The process is TSMC 2nm; the M5 is 3nm. With 24GB or 32GB of unified memory, bandwidth tops out at 170GB/s. The 16GB configuration stays at 153GB/s, the same ceiling as the M5. Each GPU core has a Neural Accelerator, and the chip has a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The earlier 200GB/s rumor is not what shipped in the Mac mini. Macworld’s read is that the extra GPU cores and the architecture can deliver about 20 percent or more in 3D graphics, and that bandwidth caps how far that goes. That is a judgment about the mini, not an Apple benchmark for the laptop.

What is expected to carry over is the 14-inch size, the current chassis, Liquid Retina XDR (mini-LED), the ports, and the battery structure. OLED and touch are not expected on this model. There is no new official battery-hour figure. The M5 is offered at 16GB, 24GB, and 32GB; nobody has reported a change for the laptop. For local models, the bandwidth gap sits between 16GB and 24GB, not between the letters M5 and M6. How those two steps behave on the mini is in the M6 Mac mini buying note.

16GB bandwidth did not rise with the name

If the laptop keeps the mini’s memory split, a 16GB M6 stays at 153GB/s, same as the M5. A new name without more memory leaves the local-model wall where it is.

The touchscreen OLED is a different line

Reporting puts two different MacBook Pros on the same event. The entry 14-inch is expected to move from M5 to M6 and keep the chassis. The high-end machine is expected to get an OLED touchscreen, a thinner and lighter body, and possibly an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. Its chips stay the M5 Pro and M5 Max from March 2026.

On 15 October Gurman said Apple is pretty much done with M6: the Mac mini already has it, an M6 iMac and an entry 14-inch MacBook Pro are planned, and there will be no M6 Pro, M6 Max, or M6 Ultra. The high-end touchscreen models get M7 Pro and M7 Max at the end of 2027. An entry M7 comes sometime next year. M7 Ultra is slated for the first half of 2028, which also makes a new Mac Studio in 2027 unlikely. The skipped high-end M6 parts are so the M7 work, aimed at AI workloads, can move first.

Waiting for M6 is not waiting for a stronger pro chip, and it is not waiting for a touchscreen. M5 Pro is still the tier for heavier work. The Mac mini is already split that way: standard M6, high-end M5 Pro. That choice is in M6 versus M5 Pro Mac mini. The screen and price gap on the touch model is in the OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro note.

Entry 14-inch, expected M6 Touchscreen OLED
Chip Base M6, no Pro or Max M5 Pro / M5 Max, same as March
Display Current Liquid Retina XDR, mini-LED OLED, touch
Chassis Expected to stay Thinner and lighter; Dynamic Island possible
Sizes 14-inch Reported as 14-inch and 16-inch
Price Unpublished; current anchor $1,999 Unpublished, expected above today’s high end
Next chip Entry M7, reported for 2027 M7 Pro / Max, reported for late 2027

Buy, wait, or rent a Mac this week

You want the entry 14-inch, and nothing has to boot this week. Wait until 28 October. Price, memory, and delivery become a store page after that. The outgoing M5 may also be discounted. Paying $1,999 before a discount buys the chip that is on sale now, not the unpriced one.

You need Pro or Max cores, or you want the OLED touchscreen. That is the other machine at the same event. The chips stay M5 Pro and M5 Max, the price is expected to be higher, and there is still no number. Sitting next to an M6 does not turn it into an M6 Pro.

You need to compile and run simulators this week. If a week of stopped work already costs more than a month of a cloud Mac, there is no reason to pay full price for an M5 in the week before the event. A dedicated macOS machine can take Xcode now. After the 6 November window you can decide between the M6, a discounted M5, and the touchscreen model, using real prices and real lead times.

You want OLED at the entry price. Reporting points at an M7 in 2027 and a possible redesigned chassis, with no fixed month. That wait only fits if the machine you have still does the work. If compiles are already stuck this week, the thing you are waiting on is not next year.

One decision before the event

Separate the base M6, the touchscreen OLED, and the 2027 M7. The chips and the screens are not on the same row. Only the first of those is the entry MacBook Pro this piece is about.

Questions

When is the M6 MacBook Pro coming out? As of 21 October 2026, Apple has confirmed a 28 October event in Los Angeles under Pro and tell. Bloomberg reports an entry 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro on that slate. Apple has not published the laptop’s name or specs by itself.

When can you buy it? No ship date is published. Gurman says stores are preparing a reset from the evening of 5 November into 6 November, which usually means the products go on sale. A 30 October preorder is a Friday-pattern inference. The Forbes piece that used it still had the event on the 27th.

How much will it cost? The new model is unpriced. The current 14-inch M5 starts at $1,999 in the US and £1,999 in the UK. June’s increase is recent, and the memory shortage is still in the reporting, so a hold or another rise are both open. Use the local store page, not a currency conversion.

Is there an M6 Pro or M6 Max? Gurman says no, and no M6 Ultra either. The touchscreen OLED models keep M5 Pro and M5 Max. M7 Pro and M7 Max are reported for the end of 2027.

How do the specs differ from the M5? Laptop specs are not official. The shipping M6 Mac mini is 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, 2nm; 170GB/s at 24GB or 32GB, and 153GB/s at 16GB. The entry laptop is expected to keep the 14-inch chassis and mini-LED, without touch.

Buy the M5 or wait? If you want the entry model and this week is not blocked, wait until the 28th. If you need to compile now, put the toolchain on a cloud Mac and buy after the price and the lead time are real. OLED and Pro or Max cores are the other machine.
